Orderly Docs
Everything you need to know about Orderly -- from scanning your first QR code to running a full restaurant operation.
Getting Started
The basics of using Orderly as a diner.
Scanning the QR Code
Each table in a restaurant has a unique QR code. Scanning it opens the restaurant's menu in your phone's browser. No app download required. The QR code encodes the table number so orders are automatically routed to the correct location.
Browser Compatibility
Orderly works in all modern mobile browsers including Safari (iOS 15+), Chrome (Android 8+), Firefox, and Samsung Internet. Desktop browsers are also supported for takeout ordering. We recommend keeping your browser updated for the best experience.
Language & Accessibility
The interface adapts to your device language. Voice ordering supports English with multilingual support rolling out in 2026. The menu interface is fully accessible with screen reader support, high contrast mode, and adjustable text sizing.
Ordering
How to browse, order, and track your food.
Browsing the Menu
Items are organized by category (appetizers, mains, desserts, drinks, etc.) as configured by the restaurant. Each item shows its name, price, and optional description. Tap any item to see full details including allergen tags, dietary information, and customization options.
Voice Ordering
Tap the microphone button and speak naturally. Say things like "I'll have the margherita pizza with extra cheese" or "Can I get two chicken tacos, no cilantro, and a lemonade?" The AI understands modifiers, quantities, and special instructions. You can also ask questions like "What's gluten-free?" or "What's your spiciest dish?"
Chat Ordering
Prefer typing? Use the text chat to place orders. Type messages like "Add a caesar salad" or "Remove the soup from my order." The AI assistant can also answer questions about the menu, suggest pairings, and remember your preferences from past visits.
AI Recommendations
If you've ordered before, the AI learns your preferences over time and can suggest items you might like. It can factor in your spice tolerance, dietary restrictions, and past favorites. Ask "What should I get?" for a personalized recommendation.
Cart & Checkout
Review your cart, adjust quantities, add special notes for the kitchen, and place the order. Once placed, the order goes directly to the kitchen display. Payment is handled at the restaurant -- Orderly handles ordering, not payment processing.
Order Tracking
After placing an order, you'll see real-time status updates: Received, Preparing, Ready, and Delivered. Push notifications are available if you've created an account. You can place additional orders from the same session without re-scanning.
Restaurant Setup
How to configure your restaurant on Orderly.
Initial Setup
Create your restaurant profile with basic details: name, cuisine type, location, operating hours, and currency. Upload your logo and set your brand colors for a customized ordering experience. The entire setup process takes under 30 minutes.
Menu Configuration
Add menu items with names, descriptions, prices, and categories. Each item can have modifier groups (e.g., "Choose your protein," "Select spice level"). Mark items with dietary tags like vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, or nut-free. Items can be toggled available/unavailable in real-time.
Table & QR Setup
Add tables with display names (e.g., "Table 1," "Patio 3," "Bar Seat 7"). Each table gets a unique QR code that can be printed and placed. QR codes can be regenerated if needed without affecting active sessions.
Branding & Customization
Customize the ordering interface with your restaurant logo, primary brand color, and welcome message. The AI greeting can be configured to match your restaurant's personality -- from casual to fine dining.
Multi-Currency Support
Orderly supports multiple currencies including USD, PHP, AED, EUR, GBP, and INR. Prices are stored in cents for precision and displayed with proper formatting for each currency.
Location Verification
Optionally require customers to be within a certain radius of your restaurant to place orders. This prevents remote ordering abuse. Configure the radius in meters from your restaurant's GPS coordinates.
Staff & Operations
Managing your kitchen, staff, and analytics.
Kitchen Dashboard
The real-time kitchen dashboard shows incoming orders organized by status. Each order displays the table number, items with special instructions, and elapsed time. Staff can update order status with a single tap: New, Preparing, Ready, Delivered, or Cancelled.
Staff Accounts
Add staff members with unique 4-6 digit PINs. Staff can log in from any device to access the kitchen dashboard. Multiple staff can be logged in simultaneously. Staff accounts can be deactivated without deletion to preserve order history.
Order Notifications
New orders trigger visual and audio alerts on the kitchen dashboard. The notification sound can be customized. Orders that have been waiting too long are highlighted to prevent delays.
Analytics & Insights
View order volume over time, popular items, average order values, peak hours, and customer return rates. Data is updated in real-time and can be filtered by date range. Use insights to optimize your menu and staffing.
Offline Resilience
The kitchen dashboard caches order data locally. If your internet briefly drops, staff can still view and update orders. Data syncs automatically when connectivity is restored.
Security & Privacy
All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Customer data is anonymized in analytics. Voice recordings are processed in real-time and not stored. Orderly complies with GDPR and CCPA data protection requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions from diners and restaurant operators.
Do customers need to download an app?
No. Orderly runs entirely in the browser. Customers scan the QR code at their table and the menu loads instantly. No app store, no downloads, no sign-up required to place an order.
What if a customer doesn't want to use voice?
Voice is entirely optional. Customers can browse the visual menu and tap to add items, or type in the chat interface. All three input methods (voice, chat, tap) work interchangeably.
How does the AI handle dietary allergies?
The AI is aware of all allergen and dietary tags configured by the restaurant for each menu item. When asked, it filters and recommends items based on stated restrictions. It can also proactively warn about potential allergens.
What hardware does the restaurant need?
Just a phone, tablet, or computer for the kitchen dashboard, plus printed QR codes for the tables. No POS hardware, no tablets bolted to tables, no special equipment. Any device with a modern web browser works.
Can customers order more items after their initial order?
Yes. The session stays active, and customers can place additional orders from the same table without re-scanning. Each order is tracked separately but associated with the same session.
Is there a limit to how many tables a restaurant can have?
No. You can add as many tables as your restaurant needs. Each table gets its own unique QR code and can handle concurrent sessions.
How accurate is the voice recognition?
We use state-of-the-art speech recognition optimized for restaurant ordering scenarios. Accuracy is typically above 95% for clear speech in moderate noise environments. The AI always confirms before adding items to the cart.
What happens if the internet goes down?
The kitchen dashboard caches orders locally and syncs when connectivity returns. For new orders, customers would need internet on their phone to place orders, but existing displayed orders remain accessible to kitchen staff.
Does Orderly handle payments?
Currently, Orderly focuses on the ordering experience. Payment is handled at the restaurant through your existing payment setup. Payment integration is on our roadmap.
